The Mammoth Community Water District supplies water to Mammoth Lakes from two sources: diversions from Mammoth Creek, which spills from Lake Mary (in the Lakes Basin), and from wells around town. Water is critical commodity to the well being and future growth of the town. Edison provides electrical power to the area. Edison offers various rates, including a domestic low income, domestic, seasonal, commercial and a pumping rate. Propane is commonly used in Mammoth Lakes to fuel furnaces, water heaters and stoves. The local newspapers are the Mammoth Times and The Sheet. The Mammoth Times is distributed every Thursday. You may pick one up for a small fee at many different locations around town. The Sheet is distributed on Saturday and is free. There are two local radio stations. FM radio stations KMMT out of Mammoth Lakes and KSRW out of Bishop. Locally-operated TV Channel 33 and Channel 72 provides local news, including detailed reports on weather and community activities. Government

The Town of Mammoth Lakes conducts business under a council-manager form of government. The five elected members of the Mammoth Lakes Town Council make public policy about areas as diverse as creating the Town budget to planting trophy-sized trout in the Lakes Basin. General elections are held every two years. The Council is also responsible for hiring the Town Attorney and Town Manager. Mammoth Mountain Ski Area
Mammoth Mountain Ski Area is one of the largest ski resorts in the country. With 150 trails, 30 lifts, 3 terrain parks, 3,500 acres of ski able terrain, a vertical drop of 3,100 feet, summit elevation of 11,053 feet and base elevation of 7,953 feet, Mammoth Mountain is appropriately named. Mammoth's season is longer than almost any other resort in the United States.

Although Mother Nature usually supplies enough snow for early season opening, Mammoth is fully equipped with extraordinary snowmaking facilities to ensure a perfect ski holiday. Mammoth Mountain has three major base facilities, Main Lodge, Canyon Lodge and Little Eagle Lodge. Main Lodge and Canyon Lodge providing, full-service dining facilities, rental and repair shops, sport shops, and ski school facilities.

Little Eagle Lodge has a dining facility, limited rental and sport shop. Mammoth Mountain also has the best terrain parks. Constantly upping the bar, the Unbound Parks have made it a point to keep features new every season. Fresh rails, boxes and a Wall Ride are only enhanced by the world-class system of pipes. In the summer months, Mammoth Mountain becomes a mecca for mountain bike enthusiasts and hikers. Mammoth Mountain purchased June Mountain in 1986.

June Mountain has two summits, both serviced by high-speed quad chairs giving fast access to all trails, with terrain for all abilities. June is a powder skiers and snowboarder's paradise. June Mountain has some of the best powder skiing and snowboarding in California. June Mountain may not be as big as Mammoth Mountain, but it's just as big when it comes to fun.
