GivingTuesday: December 3
November 22, 2024
Fueling the Spirit of Giving This 2024 GivingTuesday
GivingTuesday is the first Tuesday after Thanksgiving. It's a global movement rooted in generosity, inspiring people everywhere to give back and strengthen their communities. This year it falls on Tuesday, December 3, 2024.
The Mammoth Lakes Chamber of Commerce values our non-profit members and is proud to support their efforts by creating this blog page to highlight their incredible work. By sharing their 2024 GivingTuesday initiatives and providing a platform to connect with the wider community, we aim to bring even greater value to the important work they do.
Below, you’ll find a list of initiatives from some of our non-profit members, along with a complete list to our directory showcasing all our non-profit members and links to their websites. Together, we’re building community strength and making a difference through shared humanity.
1. High Sierra Energy Foundation
High Sierra Energy Foundation is a local nonprofit, founded in 2005, with a mission to promote the culture of energy efficiency and sustainability in the Eastern Sierra. This Giving Tuesday, HSEF is raising money for Mammoth High School to help the Construction Management program integrate climate-friendly technology into its curriculum.

2. Friends of the Inyo
Friends of the Inyo's mission is to protect and care for the land and water of the Eastern Sierra. Our Trail Ambassadors work with land management agencies to educate trail users on how to best recreate responsibly, provide interpretive talks and hikes, and engage volunteers in public lands stewardship events. In our policy work, we research and engage with a wide range of issues affecting our public lands, such as proposed mining projects, water extraction by LADWP and regional solar development plans. We advocate for the conservation and best management of our public lands and keep the public informed about opportunities to make their voice heard.

7. Volunteer Eastern Sierra
VES is a Mammoth Lakes based 501 (c) (3) that supports over 25 local not-for-profit Eastern Sierra service providers with direct donations. These funds come largely from our monthly Not Your Grandma’s Bingos (99.9% of proceeds are given to designated beneficiaries) as well as through club members’ donations. Among the recipients are Mono Arts Council, Disabled Sports, Rhiannon’s Kids, Mono County Search and Rescue, Sierra Classic Theater, Mammoth High School Boosters, Tony Colossardo Scholarship Fund, WildCare, Aka Mya Cultural Center, Wild Iris among others.
How can our small all-volunteer group give so much (over $60,000 given in 2023; over $45,000 given in 2024 so far) with no staff and no other sources of income? We can because the Mammoth and Eastern Sierra Community are GENEROUS! Thank you, all, for supporting our VES and our goals.
