DEI Committee

Fostering an inclusive community

The Mammoth Lakes Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors has identified the need for Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) practices to be discussed and considered in Chamber activities and encourages member businesses to do the same.

For our Chamber, DEI means:

Diversity includes all the ways in which people differ – including psychological, physical, and social characteristics – that make one individual or group different from another. Through diverse experiences and personal choices, an individual can be tied to various groups.

Equity is the assurance of fair treatment, access, opportunity, and advancement for all people. The concept of equity is the awareness of systemic causes of disparities and, more importantly, the action to eliminate barriers that have prevented the full participation of some groups. By being inclusive, a welcoming environment establishes a sense of belonging and feeling valued within a group or structure.

Inclusivity is respecting all people’s unique perspectives. Since our inclusion work began, we have engaged with our members and the broader community through our “Delve into DEI” events. These quarterly gatherings bring together people from various backgrounds to discuss what diversity looks like in Mammoth and we collectively work towards equity and creating an inclusive culture.
